Come together with women this coming October in Olympia, Washington for a weekend of self-care, affirmation, and growth. Experience the freshness and beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Explore the creativity and art of Olympia’s downtown. Empower yourself and build lasting friendships with women in Washington State’s Capital City.

The Struggle is Real

It’s no surprise that being a woman is hard work. As women continue to navigate a world that is unwelcoming and unaccepting of seeing women empowered -even as women’s empowerment movements are happening- it can feel exhausting to keep showing up and trying to be everything you’re expected to be and also being authentic to you.

The messages the world sends to women are confusing, overwhelming, and contradictory.

Be perfect, but accept your flaws.  Be strong but delicate.  Be beautiful but not self-indulgent. Take care of yourself, but make sure everyone else is taken care of. And so on and so on. Gloria’s (America Ferrera) monologue in Barbie the movie (2023) sums up nicely how many women feel and have felt for far too long.  We carry intergenerational and cultural trauma and beliefs that continue to disempower and separate us and pit women against each other rather than bringing us together in genuine and authentic support for our mutual empowerment and growth.

Even those of us committed to women’s empowerment struggle and receive push back from women and society if we don’t “play the game” of womanhood.  A game of empowering women just enough, while secretly or publicly shaming or degrading women who are confident, authentic, and empowered.

We continue to receive messages from the media and our inner circles that we must use tools of gossip, rumor spreading, and keeping other women in check to achieve our own empowerment.  We must climb over or push down each other to be able to rise to the top and be admired, accepted, and loved.  Bridgerton on Netflix is a great example of this.  While an empowering and engaging story, the message remains: it’s ok to gossip and manipulate if you can use it to rise and empower yourself.  You’ll outgrow it once you’re elevated socially and those you’ve hurt will eventually get over it.  Nevermind how you’ve harmed your sisterhood, and reaffirmed the stereotypes of shortcomings of women.

In a world that continues to devalue and threaten women, we need a place where we can come together and agree to uplift each other while empowering ourselves.

This is WomanKind Weekend and you’re invited.

Refresh and Rejuvenate

Many self care activities focus purely on self care.  That is wonderful and important and I strongly support women prioritizing self care that uplifts you, makes you feel beautiful, de-stresses and re-energizes you.

But what would it look like if your self-care also empowered your relationships with other women in your life? What if your self-care focused on caring about and uplifting the women in your life while also being cared for and uplifted by those women, and attending to your own needs too.  As women we are well trained to care for others, and we have heard the call to take better care of ourselves.  We have the power to care for each other and have that elevate us all to empowerment without devaluing or disempowering each other.

This is the vision for WomanKind Weekend 2024.

You are invited to come solo, bring your girlfriends, and meet and make friends along the way.
