Consultation Group for Therapists & Associate Therapists

You’re a new or seasoned clinician and would like a safe place for peer consultation and support. Your caseload includes people who experience suicidal thoughts and behaviors or self harm thoughts and behaviors and you would like professional support to be able to provide the best care for your clients, and self-care for yourself as you hold space for your clients who need you.

You would like a space where you can refer clients who may need specialized care. You would also like to be able to take on more complex cases and help those in need.

I provide up to weekly clinical peer consultation for mental health professionals who see clients that have self harm or suicidal thoughts or behaviors. If you’re a therapist, you belong here!

  • Purpose:

The purpose of this group is to provide a safe place for therapists to consult, learn, and receive support for client caseloads related to suicidal thoughts or self harm behaviors.  These behaviors and thoughts can be difficult for some therapists to feel safe addressing yet it is difficult, if not impossible to screen out suicidality or self harm behaviors.  It may also be considered unethical.  While it is ok to refer to other therapists outside of your scope of ability, it is expected that all therapists have the training and ability to support clients who may experience these thoughts, feelings, and behaviors from time to time. This group intends to support therapists and therefore support clients in receiving access to this level of care.

It is also a supportive place for new professionals (associates) under supervision to experience a consultation group in vivo. Student interns may join from time to time and are under direct supervision and have signed a confidentiality agreement and training to participate in the group as an observer.

    Benefits:

Benefits are a shared community among therapists who care about this work and/or want to learn better how to support this community of needs.  Therapists also receive ready referrals and resources and are able to refer out cases that are beyond the scope of their abilities.  Therapist are encouraged to work their difficult cases as long as it does not present a danger to themselves, their client, or others.
